Where is Sunshine Village located?

Sunshine Village is located in the southwestern corner of Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, approximately 15 kilometres (9 miles) west of the Town of Banff along the Trans-Canada Highway. Its convenient location makes it one of the easiest alpine destinations to reach in the Canadian Rockies while still offering a true wilderness experience surrounded by towering mountain peaks.

The resort begins at a base area in the valley, where visitors park and board the Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola. From there, the gondola climbs several kilometres through dense forests to the main village, which sits high above the tree line at an elevation of approximately 2,160 metres (7,087 feet). This high elevation gives Sunshine Village one of the longest snow seasons in Canada during winter and spectacular alpine scenery throughout the summer.

Sunshine Village is surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes in Banff National Park. The area is famous for Sunshine Meadows, a protected alpine environment filled with wildflower-covered meadows, crystal-clear lakes, and panoramic mountain views. It also lies close to the Continental Divide, where the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia meet, adding to the area's unique geographical significance.

Despite its remote alpine setting, Sunshine Village is easily accessible by road from Banff, making it a popular day-trip destination. Visitors can reach the base area in about 20 minutes by car, and from there the sightseeing gondola provides quick and comfortable access to the alpine village and the Standish Chairlift. The combination of easy accessibility and extraordinary mountain scenery makes Sunshine Village one of Banff National Park's premier summer attractions.
