When is the sightseeing chairlift open?

The Mount Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift is typically open during the summer and early autumn, usually from June through early or mid-October. The exact opening and closing dates can vary slightly each year depending on snow conditions, weather, and mountain operations.

Throughout the summer season, the chairlift generally operates daily, giving visitors plenty of opportunities to enjoy the scenic ride. Long daylight hours make it easy to visit in the morning, afternoon, or early evening. Morning rides often offer cool, crisp mountain air and excellent visibility, while late afternoon and evening can provide beautiful golden light across the surrounding peaks.

The busiest period is usually from late June through August, when Banff welcomes the highest number of visitors. During this time, the mountain is covered in lush greenery, alpine wildflowers bloom across the slopes, and wildlife is frequently active. Despite the popularity of the season, Mount Norquay often remains quieter than some of Banff's larger mountain attractions, making for a more relaxed sightseeing experience.

September and early October are also wonderful times to visit. Cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and the changing colours of autumn create a different but equally beautiful mountain atmosphere. As the season progresses, visitors may even see fresh snow on the highest surrounding peaks while the valleys below remain colourful.

The sightseeing chairlift closes once the summer season ends, allowing Mount Norquay to prepare for winter operations. During the colder months, the resort becomes a destination for skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, and night skiing, and the chairlift is no longer used for sightseeing until the following summer.
