What is the experience like in winter?

Winter transforms Mt. Norquay into a completely different destination. Instead of a summer sightseeing attraction, it becomes one of Banff National Park's premier ski and snowboard resorts. Snow blankets the mountain, the forests become frosted with white, and the atmosphere shifts from leisurely sightseeing to winter adventure.

The summer sightseeing chairlift does not operate during the winter season. Instead, the chairlifts and other lifts are dedicated to serving skiers and snowboarders accessing the ski terrain. Fresh animal tracks in the snow often reveal the presence of creatures that remain hidden during the day.

Temperatures are significantly colder than in summer, especially at higher elevations. Warm winter clothing is essential, including an insulated jacket, snow pants if you'll be outdoors for an extended period, insulated boots, gloves or mittens, a warm hat, and sunglasses or goggles on bright days.

The mountain has a lively yet welcoming atmosphere throughout the ski season. Skiers, snowboarders, families, and spectators gather at the base lodge, creating a classic Canadian Rockies winter experience. Visitors who aren't skiing can still enjoy the mountain setting, watch the activity on the slopes, and relax with food and hot drinks at the lodge.
