Is there a cafe?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Is there a cafe?

Yes. The Banff Gondola offers more than just restaurants—it also has excellent cafés where visitors can relax with a coffee, enjoy a light meal, or warm up after exploring Sulphur Mountain. Whether you're looking for a quick breakfast before your ride or a hot drink after walking the summit boardwalk, you'll find convenient options at both the base and the top of the mountain.

At the base terminal, there is a full-service Starbucks located inside the main gondola building. It is a popular stop for visitors arriving early in the morning, offering freshly brewed coffee, espresso drinks, teas, hot chocolate, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, muffins, cookies, and other grab-and-go snacks. The café features comfortable seating within the lodge-style terminal, making it a pleasant place to relax while waiting for your boarding time or meeting friends before beginning the ride up Sulphur Mountain.

Once you reach the summit, you'll find Castle Mountain Coffee Co., a cozy alpine café located on the first level of the upper terminal. It has a warm mountain atmosphere with modern wood finishes and large windows that bring in plenty of natural light. Many visitors stop here after completing the boardwalk to Sanson's Peak, making it one of the most popular places to recharge before continuing their visit.

Castle Mountain Coffee serves specialty coffees, espresso beverages, cappuccinos, lattes, teas, hot chocolate, cold drinks, and a variety of fresh baked treats. It also offers light meals such as sandwiches, wraps, salads, yogurt, fruit, and other grab-and-go options that are perfect if you prefer a casual meal instead of a full-service restaurant.

One of the biggest advantages of the summit café is its location. You can easily pick up a coffee and step outside onto the viewing decks or begin the scenic boardwalk while enjoying your drink. Many visitors like to take a warm beverage with them as they stroll toward the Cosmic Ray Station and Sanson's Peak, especially during the cooler morning and evening hours.

The cafés also provide a comfortable place to escape changing mountain weather. Even during summer, temperatures at the summit are noticeably cooler than in Banff town, so enjoying a hot coffee indoors while watching clouds drift across the surrounding peaks can become part of the experience itself. During autumn and winter, the cafés are especially welcoming after spending time outdoors in the crisp alpine air.

If you're looking for something more substantial than café fare, the summit also features Sky Bistro, an upscale restaurant known for its panoramic mountain views and locally inspired cuisine, as well as Northern Lights Alpine Kitchen, which offers a casual buffet-style dining experience. Together, these dining options make the Banff Gondola one of the few attractions in the Canadian Rockies where visitors can enjoy everything from a quick coffee to a memorable mountaintop meal without ever leaving the summit.
