Is the chairlift enclosed?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Mount Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift

Is the chairlift enclosed?

o. The Mount Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift is not enclosed. It is a classic open-air, two-person chairlift, allowing visitors to enjoy unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains throughout the entire ride.

Unlike a gondola, which carries passengers inside enclosed cabins with windows, the Mount Norquay chairlift has open seats with no walls or roof. This gives you a true alpine experience, with fresh mountain air, panoramic views, and an uninterrupted connection to the landscape as you glide up the mountainside.

Each chair is equipped with a safety bar, which is lowered after boarding and remains in place for the duration of the ride. The chairlift travels at a slow, steady pace, making the journey smooth, relaxing, and comfortable for most visitors.

The open-air design is one of the chairlift's biggest attractions. As you ascend, you'll enjoy spectacular views of the Bow Valley, the Town of Banff, Mount Rundle, Cascade Mountain, and the surrounding Canadian Rockies without any glass or window frames blocking your view. Many visitors feel that this creates a more immersive mountain experience than riding inside an enclosed gondola.

Because the chairlift is open to the elements, it's a good idea to dress for the weather. Even on warm summer days, temperatures at higher elevations can be cooler, and a light jacket or windbreaker is often recommended. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat are also useful on sunny days, as you'll be fully exposed to the mountain environment throughout the ride.

If you prefer an enclosed cabin because of weather, comfort, or a fear of heights, the Banff Gondola or the Lake Louise Gondola may be better options. If you're looking for an authentic, open-air mountain experience with uninterrupted views, the Mount Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift offers exactly that. Book the Mt. Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift
