Is the boardwalk open in winter?

Yes. The Sulphur Mountain Boardwalk is generally open throughout the winter, allowing visitors to enjoy the summit long after the snow arrives. Walking the boardwalk in winter offers a completely different experience, with snow-covered peaks, frosted forests, and crisp mountain air creating a spectacular alpine setting.

The boardwalk is maintained as conditions permit, and snow is regularly cleared from the main walking areas. However, because it is located at high elevation, visitors should still expect winter conditions. Packed snow, icy patches, and strong winds are common, so sturdy winter footwear with good traction is highly recommended.

Winter temperatures at the summit are often much colder than in Banff, and wind chill can make it feel even colder. Dressing in warm layers, including a winter jacket, hat, gloves, and insulated footwear, will make your visit much more comfortable.
