Is it a half-day or full-day activity?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

Is it a half-day or full-day activity?

Sunshine Village can be enjoyed as either a half-day or full-day activity, depending on your interests and how much of the alpine area you want to explore.

For many visitors, it is a half-day experience. Spending about four to five hours gives you enough time to ride the Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola, take the Standish Chairlift, visit the Standish Viewing Deck, stroll through parts of Sunshine Meadows, enjoy the scenery, and have lunch before returning to the base. This is a great option if you're planning to combine Sunshine Village with another Banff attraction on the same day.

If you enjoy hiking, photography, or simply spending time in nature, Sunshine Village easily becomes a full-day destination. The extensive network of trails through Sunshine Meadows offers plenty to explore, with alpine lakes, wildflower meadows, and panoramic viewpoints around every corner. Many visitors spend the entire day walking the trails, watching for wildlife, taking photographs, and relaxing in the peaceful alpine environment.

A full-day visit also gives you the flexibility to enjoy the mountain at a leisurely pace. You can ride both lifts, stop at multiple viewpoints, take breaks to enjoy the scenery, dine at one of the village restaurants, and experience the changing light across the mountains as the day progresses.

Overall, a half-day visit is perfect for sightseeing, while a full day is recommended if you want to fully experience Sunshine Meadows and everything the area has to offer. If your schedule allows, a full day provides the most rewarding and immersive experience in one of Banff National Park's most beautiful alpine landscapes.
