How much time should I spend there?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Sunshine Village Sightseeing Gondola & Standish Chairlift

How much time should I spend there?

The amount of time you should spend at Sunshine Village depends on how much you want to explore, but 4 to 6 hours is ideal for most visitors. This allows plenty of time to enjoy the sightseeing gondola, ride the Standish Chairlift, visit the Standish Viewing Deck, walk through Sunshine Meadows, take photographs, relax, and have a meal without feeling rushed.

If you're primarily interested in the gondola ride, the Standish Chairlift, and the main viewpoints, you can comfortably experience the highlights in about 2 to 3 hours. This is a good option for visitors with a busy itinerary who still want to enjoy the spectacular alpine scenery.

For those who enjoy hiking, photography, or spending time in nature, 5 to 7 hours is recommended. This gives you enough time to explore several of the walking trails through Sunshine Meadows, admire the alpine lakes, watch for wildlife, and enjoy the changing mountain scenery throughout the day. Many visitors find themselves lingering longer than expected because of the peaceful atmosphere and breathtaking views.

Enthusiastic hikers may choose to spend an entire day at Sunshine Village. With numerous trails ranging from easy walks to longer alpine hikes, it's easy to fill a full day exploring the meadows, mountain ridges, and scenic viewpoints before returning on the gondola.

If your schedule allows, avoid rushing your visit. Sunshine Village is a place best enjoyed at a relaxed pace. Taking time to ride both lifts, wander through the meadows, stop at scenic overlooks, enjoy a meal with mountain views, and simply appreciate the alpine environment makes for a much more memorable experience than a quick stop.
