How long is the boardwalk?

The Sulphur Mountain Boardwalk is approximately 1 kilometre (0.6 miles) round trip from the Banff Gondola summit complex to Sanson's Peak and back.

Most visitors spend 20 to 30 minutes walking the boardwalk at a relaxed pace. If you stop to enjoy the viewpoints, read the interpretive displays, or take photographs, it's common to spend 30 to 45 minutes exploring the route.

The boardwalk follows the mountain ridge and is primarily made of wide wooden decking with railings along many sections. Near the end of the walk, a staircase climbs to the historic Sanson's Peak weather station, where some of the highest and most panoramic views on Sulphur Mountain can be enjoyed.

Although the distance is relatively short, many visitors take their time because nearly every section offers spectacular scenery. The route provides constantly changing views of the Bow Valley, Banff townsite, Mount Rundle, Cascade Mountain, Tunnel Mountain, and the surrounding mountain ranges.

The boardwalk is suitable for most visitors and requires far less effort than hiking Sulphur Mountain. It is one of the most popular experiences at the summit because it combines an easy walk with some of the best panoramic viewpoints in Banff National Park. Book Banff Gondola Ride Admission
