How high does the chairlift go?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Mount Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift

How high does the chairlift go?

The Mount Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift climbs to an elevation of approximately 2,133 metres (6,998 feet) above sea level. Starting from the base area of Mount Norquay, the chairlift steadily ascends the mountainside, carrying visitors into the alpine environment where cooler temperatures, expansive views, and fresh mountain air await.

As you gain elevation during the approximately 10-minute ride, the scenery changes noticeably. Dense evergreen forests gradually give way to open ski slopes, rocky outcrops, and alpine meadows. The higher you climb, the broader the views become, revealing the Bow Valley, the Town of Banff, Mount Rundle, Cascade Mountain, and numerous peaks stretching across the Canadian Rockies.

At nearly 2,100 metres above sea level, the upper station sits well above the valley floor, providing panoramic views that are difficult to experience from lower elevations. The cooler mountain climate and thinner alpine vegetation create a distinctly different environment from downtown Banff, even though the resort is only a short drive away.

The upper station is also home to the historic Cliffhouse Bistro and serves as the starting point for Mount Norquay's Via Ferrata climbing adventures. Visitors can relax at the viewpoint, enjoy a meal with spectacular scenery, or simply take in the mountain landscape before riding the chairlift back down.

Although it does not reach the same elevations as some of the highest gondolas in the Canadian Rockies, the Mount Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift climbs high enough to deliver breathtaking panoramic views while maintaining a relaxed and accessible experience for visitors of all ages. Its combination of elevation, scenery, and proximity to Banff makes it one of the most rewarding short mountain excursions in the national park. Book the Mt. Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift
