How high does the Banff Gondola go?

The Banff Gondola climbs to the summit of Sulphur Mountain, reaching an elevation of 2,281 metres (7,486 feet) above sea level. From the lower terminal, the gondola ascends more than 650 metres (2,100 feet) through the forest to the mountaintop in approximately eight minutes.

At this elevation, visitors are well above the Bow Valley, providing spectacular panoramic views across Banff National Park. From the summit, you can look down over the town of Banff and see famous landmarks such as Mount Rundle, Cascade Mountain, Tunnel Mountain, and numerous peaks stretching across the Canadian Rockies.

The high elevation also creates a true alpine environment. Temperatures at the summit are often several degrees cooler than in downtown Banff, and weather conditions can change quickly. Even during summer, visitors may find cool breezes or occasional patches of snow lingering on nearby slopes early in the season.

After reaching the upper terminal, visitors can climb a few additional stairs or follow the boardwalk toward Sanson's Peak. This short walk brings you to some of the highest public viewpoints on Sulphur Mountain, offering even more expansive views of the surrounding mountain ranges and valleys.
