How far can you see on a clear day?

On a clear day, you can see for many tens of kilometres from the top of the Mount Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift. The elevated viewpoint provides expansive, long-distance views across the Bow Valley and into the surrounding mountain ranges, allowing visitors to appreciate the immense scale of Banff National Park.

Looking south and west, your view extends across the Town of Banff, the Bow River, Vermilion Lakes, and the forested valley floor. Beyond these landmarks, layers of mountain ranges stretch toward the horizon, creating the classic Canadian Rockies landscape of rugged peaks fading into the distance.

The excellent visibility also allows you to see many of Banff's most recognizable mountains, including Mount Rundle, Cascade Mountain, and numerous unnamed peaks surrounding the Bow Valley. On exceptionally clear days, the mountain ridges appear to continue almost endlessly, with each successive range becoming lighter in colour as it disappears into the distance.

The atmosphere plays a major role in visibility. Cool, dry mornings following a clear night often provide the sharpest views, with crisp mountain outlines and exceptional clarity. After rain has washed dust and haze from the air, visibility can be particularly impressive, making distant peaks stand out with remarkable detail.

Every season offers a slightly different viewing experience. Summer provides vibrant green forests and bright blue skies, autumn adds colourful foliage across the valley, and winter often delivers some of the clearest air of the year, allowing distant snow-covered peaks to stand out against deep blue skies.

Because the viewpoint sits high above the Bow Valley with very few obstructions, it offers one of the finest opportunities to appreciate the vastness of the Canadian Rockies.
