Can you see Mount Rundle?

Yes. Mount Rundle is one of the most prominent and recognizable mountains visible from the summit of Sulphur Mountain. In fact, it is one of the signature views that visitors come to see.

From the observation decks, Mount Rundle stretches dramatically along the southern side of the Bow Valley. Its long, rugged limestone ridge extends for more than 12 kilometres, creating one of the most iconic mountain silhouettes in the Canadian Rockies. From this elevated perspective, you can truly appreciate the mountain's immense size and distinctive shape.

The summit provides a unique angle that differs from the views in downtown Banff. Instead of looking up at Mount Rundle from the valley floor, you're looking across at its ridges, cliffs, and forested lower slopes from nearly the same elevation. This perspective reveals details of the mountain that are often hidden from below.

On clear days, Mount Rundle stands out beautifully against the surrounding peaks, making it one of the easiest mountains to identify. Throughout the day, changing sunlight creates different moods, from bright morning illumination to the warm golden glow of sunset. During winter, its snow-covered ridges create an especially striking contrast with the dark evergreen forests below.

Many visitors spend time on the summit's viewing platforms and the boardwalk to Sanson's Peak photographing Mount Rundle alongside the Banff townsite. The combination of the mountain, the Bow Valley, and the town below creates one of the most famous panoramic scenes in Banff National Park and one of the classic postcard views of the Canadian Rockies.
