Can you see Banff from the top?
Yes. One of the highlights of the Mount Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift is its outstanding view of the Town of Banff. From the upper station, you'll be looking down into the Bow Valley, giving you a bird's-eye perspective of the town surrounded by towering mountain peaks.
From this elevated viewpoint, Banff appears nestled among dense evergreen forests, with its streets, buildings, and the winding Bow River clearly visible below. The higher elevation allows you to appreciate how small the town is compared to the vast mountain landscape that surrounds it. On a clear day, the views extend far beyond Banff, revealing layers of valleys and distant peaks stretching across the Canadian Rockies.
The view of Banff is framed by several of the region's most famous mountains. Mount Rundle dominates one side of the valley with its long, rugged ridgeline, while Cascade Mountain rises prominently on the opposite side. Together, these iconic peaks create one of the classic mountain panoramas that Banff is known for.
You'll also enjoy sweeping views of the Bow Valley, where forests, rivers, and mountain slopes combine to create an ever-changing landscape. During summer, the valley is covered in vibrant shades of green, while autumn brings brilliant gold and orange colours to the forests. In winter, snow blankets the valley and surrounding peaks, creating a completely different but equally spectacular scene.
Because Mount Norquay is located on the opposite side of the Bow Valley from Sulphur Mountain, it offers a unique perspective of Banff that differs from the Banff Gondola. Instead of looking across the valley from Sulphur Mountain, you're looking toward Banff from the slopes of Mount Norquay, giving you a fresh angle on the town and its surrounding mountains.
Many visitors consider the view of Banff from the top of the chairlift to be one of the attraction's biggest highlights. Whether you're enjoying the scenery from the viewing area, relaxing at the historic Cliffhouse Bistro, or simply taking in the fresh mountain air, the panoramic views of Banff and the surrounding Canadian Rockies are truly unforgettable.
