Can wheelchairs access the experience?

Wheelchair accessibility at the Mt. Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift is limited. While visitors using wheelchairs can access parts of the base area, the sightseeing chairlift itself is generally not wheelchair accessible.

The primary limitation is the chairlift's boarding system. Passengers must transfer from the wheelchair onto a moving open-air chairlift, remain seated throughout the ride, and then stand and step off at the summit while the chair continues moving. Wheelchairs cannot be loaded onto or transported by the chairlift, and there is no enclosed cabin or level boarding platform.

The base facilities are much more accessible. Accessible parking is available near the main lodge, and visitors can access the ticket area, restrooms, and other base amenities. Those who choose not to ride can still enjoy the mountain atmosphere, dine at the base, and watch the chairlift in operation.

Even if a visitor is able to transfer into the chairlift seat, the summit presents additional challenges. The terrain includes gravel paths, uneven surfaces, natural slopes, and some stairs leading to viewpoints. These features make it difficult to navigate with a wheelchair, and because a wheelchair cannot be transported to the top, independent exploration of the summit is generally not possible.

If someone has limited mobility but is able to transfer safely with assistance, it is best to contact Mt. Norquay before visiting. Staff can explain the boarding procedure, discuss the individual's needs, and advise whether the experience is suitable.
