Can strollers be brought to the top?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Mount Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift

Can strollers be brought to the top?

Strollers generally cannot be taken on the Mt. Norquay Sightseeing Chairlift. Because the attraction uses an open-air chairlift rather than enclosed gondola cabins, there is no way to safely transport a stroller during the ride.

Families with infants and toddlers typically transfer their child to a front carrier or backpack-style child carrier before boarding. This allows parents to ride safely while keeping both hands free during loading and unloading. Lift attendants are available to assist families as they board.

If you arrive with a stroller, you should plan to leave it at the base station while you ride the chairlift. It cannot be folded and carried onto the chair, nor can it be transported to the summit.

At the top, the terrain is not especially stroller-friendly. While there are some relatively level areas near the lift terminal and Cliffhouse Bistro, many of the viewpoints are connected by gravel paths, uneven surfaces, and natural alpine terrain. A child carrier is much easier to use than a stroller if you plan to explore the summit.

For families with babies or young toddlers, a comfortable backpack carrier is usually the best option. It allows you to enjoy the scenic chairlift ride, walk to the viewpoints, and navigate the uneven mountain terrain with much greater ease.

If bringing a stroller to the summit is an important part of your visit, the Banff Gondola is a better choice. Its enclosed cabins can accommodate most standard strollers, and the summit features accessible boardwalks, elevators, ramps, and paved pathways that make exploring with young children much easier.
