Can service animals ride the gondola?

Banff National Park offers four major Gondola sightseeing lift experiences, each providing a unique way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

Banff National Park's Gondolas

Can service animals ride the gondola?

Yes. Service animals are welcome throughout the Banff Gondola, including inside the gondola cabins and throughout the summit facilities. Visitors who rely on service animals can enjoy the attraction alongside their working animal without restriction in areas that are open to the public.

Service animals are permitted to ride in the enclosed gondola cabins with their handlers. The cabins provide ample space, and staff can assist with boarding and exiting if additional time or assistance is needed. The gondola can be slowed or briefly stopped to ensure safe and comfortable boarding.

At the summit, service animals are welcome throughout the main building, including the Above Banff Interpretive Centre, observation decks, gift shop, theatres, and other public areas. Unlike pets, service animals are also permitted to accompany their handlers into restaurants, cafes, and other indoor dining areas where food is served.

Service animals may also accompany their handlers along the Sulphur Mountain Boardwalk, allowing visitors to experience the panoramic mountain views and explore much of the summit together. The only limitation is the final staircase leading to Sanson's Peak, which may present a physical challenge depending on the handler's mobility needs, but the rest of the boardwalk is accessible.

Because the summit is at a high elevation, visitors should ensure their service animal has access to water and is comfortable with the cooler temperatures and changing mountain weather. Carrying water, monitoring your animal's comfort, and taking breaks as needed will help make the visit enjoyable for both you and your service animal.

The Banff Gondola is committed to providing an accessible experience for all visitors, and service animals play an important role in helping many guests enjoy one of Banff National Park's most popular attractions safely and comfortably. Book Banff Gondola Ride Admission
