Can I bring my own food?

Yes. You are welcome to bring your own food to the Banff Gondola. Many visitors pack sandwiches, snacks, fruit, or drinks to enjoy during their visit, especially families, hikers, and travelers spending several hours on Sulphur Mountain.

While there is no dedicated indoor picnic area, you can enjoy your own food in many of the outdoor public spaces around the summit, provided you clean up after yourself. The observation decks, patios, and other seating areas offer beautiful places to take a break while admiring the surrounding mountain scenery. On warm summer days, eating outdoors can be one of the most enjoyable parts of the visit.

If you hike up Sulphur Mountain instead of riding the gondola both ways, bringing your own lunch is a popular choice. Many hikers enjoy reaching the summit, exploring the boardwalk to Sanson's Peak, and then stopping for a picnic before hiking back down or taking the gondola down.

Food should be stored securely, and visitors should never feed wildlife or leave food unattended. Ravens, squirrels, chipmunks, and other animals are attracted to unattended food, and feeding wildlife is prohibited throughout Banff National Park. Packing out all garbage helps protect the park's wildlife and keeps the summit clean for everyone.

Although bringing your own food is permitted, many visitors choose to combine their packed lunch with a coffee, dessert, or hot drink from the summit cafe, or enjoy a meal at Sky Bistro or Northern Lights Alpine Kitchen while taking in the spectacular mountain views. This flexibility allows you to keep your visit as budget-friendly or as indulgent as you prefer. Book Banff Gondola Ride Admission
